Puisant dans l\u2019histoire picturale, l\u2019architecture et le design, l\u2019artiste r\u00e9interpr\u00e8te constamment la production industrielle, tant du point de vue des formes que de celui des mat\u00e9riaux. Sensible \u00e0 l\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration des flux et \u00e0 l\u2019obsolescence programm\u00e9e, elle entend fixer une attention nouvelle sur l\u2019objet de tous les jours en l&#8217;esth\u00e9tisant.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MASS V fait partie d\u2019une plus large s\u00e9rie de sculptures ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9es \u00e0 la galerie Clearing et chez Deborah Bowmann \u00e0 Bruxelles en 2020.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Physiquement imposante et pourtant l\u00e9g\u00e8re dans sa mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9, MASS V attire notre attention vers le haut et autour, glissant le long de cette sculpture verticale o\u00f9 les courbes ext\u00e9rieures peintes contrastent avec la surface int\u00e9rieure plus rugueuse de leur face arri\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Les sculptures de la s\u00e9rie MASS sont toutes r\u00e9alis\u00e9es \u00e0 partir de panneaux de dibond produit dans les ann\u00e9es 70, r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9s d\u2019une fa\u00e7ade d&#8217;un immeuble moderniste parisien. Initialement industriels, Charlotte vander Borght les a refa\u00e7onn\u00e9s, r\u00e9imagin\u00e9s et peints afin d\u2019invoquer leur charge \u00e9motionnelle comme d\u2019une m\u00e9moire affective et collective ancr\u00e9e dans la mati\u00e8re, oscillant entre abstraction et figuration.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-ast-global-color-7-background-color has-ast-global-color-7-color is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Born in 1988 in Brussels, Charlotte vander Borght lives and works in Bushwick, New York.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Charlotte vander Borght\u2019s practice is essentially sculptural, currently comprising two main groups of works: either variations on New York subway seats or larger outdoor pieces. While she finds inspiration in art history, architecture, and design, the artist constantly questions and reinterprets the materials and structures belonging to the realm of industrial production. Acutely aware of programmed obsolescence and the ever-accelerating exchange of goods, services, and data, vander Borght aims to shine a new light on everyday objects by estheticizing them.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>MASS V belongs to a series of sculptures which were exhibited at Clearing Gallery and Deborah Bowmann in Brussels in 2020.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Both physically impressive yet elegant by means of its material, the work draws our gaze upwards, our eyes following the vertical lines of the sculpture and its curved external contours, painted in contrast with the rough surface of the reverse.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Each sculpture in the MASS series uses 1970s dibond panels salvaged from a facade of a modernist building in Paris.
