Depuis le d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1990, Diana Thater est une pionni\u00e8re dans l\u2019utilisation du film, de la vid\u00e9o, de la lumi\u00e8re et du son, d\u00e9fiant continuellement les limites des m\u00e9dias bas\u00e9s sur le temps et de l\u2019art de l\u2019installation. Son travail explore la relation entre le monde naturel et le monde construit par l\u2019homme, tout en examinant de mani\u00e8re critique les structures de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 m\u00e9diatis\u00e9e. S\u2019inspirant d\u2019une grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de sources, dont la litt\u00e9rature, les sciences du comportement animal, les math\u00e9matiques, les \u00e9checs et la sociologie, ses \u0153uvres provocantes s\u2019engagent directement dans leur environnement, produisant une relation complexe entre le temps et l\u2019espace. En combinant les qualit\u00e9s temporelles de la vid\u00e9o et la dimension architecturale de son installation physique, le travail de Thater explore l\u2019artifice de sa propre production et\u00a0sa capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 construire la perception et \u00e0 fa\u00e7onner la fa\u00e7on dont nous pensons le monde \u00e0 travers son image.<\/p>\n

Outre les murs vid\u00e9o et d\u2019autres pratiques innovantes d\u2019installation vid\u00e9o, Thater a innov\u00e9 dans l\u2019art de l\u2019installation vid\u00e9o \u00e0 360 degr\u00e9s avec ses \u0153uvres r\u00e9volutionnaires : China<\/i><\/span> (1995), relay<\/i><\/span> (une collaboration avec T. Kelly Mason, 2007), Chernobyl<\/i><\/span> (2012) et, plus r\u00e9cemment, Yes there will be singing<\/i><\/span>, une \u0153uvre sonore, vid\u00e9o et lumineuse qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 install\u00e9e pour la premi\u00e8re fois en 2020 par l\u2019artiste dans un lieu isol\u00e9 et qui ne pouvait \u00eatre exp\u00e9riment\u00e9e que num\u00e9riquement, via un flux vid\u00e9o multi channel livestream.<\/p>\n

Since the early 1990s, Diana Thater has pioneered the use of film, video, light and sound, continually challenging the boundaries of time-based media and installation art. Her work explores the relationship between the natural and man-made worlds, while critically examining the structures of mediated reality. Drawing on a wide variety of sources, including literature, animal behavioural science, mathematics, chess and sociology, his provocative works engage directly with their environment, producing a complex relationship between time and space. Combining the temporal qualities of video with the architectural dimension of his physical installation, Thater’s work explores the artifice of his own production and its ability to construct perception and shape the way we think about the world through its image.<\/em><\/p>\n

In addition to video walls and other innovative video installation practices, Thater has pioneered the art of 360-degree video installation with his groundbreaking works China (1995), relay (a collaboration with T. Kelly Mason, 2007), Chernobyl (2012) and, most recently, Yes there will be singing, a sound, video and light work that was first installed in 2020 by the artist in a remote location and could only be experienced digitally, via a multi-channel livestream video stream.<\/em><\/p>\n
