Xavier Veilhan d\u00e9veloppe depuis la fin des ann\u00e9es 1980 une d\u00e9marche aux formes multiples (sculpture, peinture, environnement, spectacle, vid\u00e9o, photo) entre classicisme formel et haute technologie.<\/p>\n

Ses \u0153uvres questionnent notre perception et cultivent un int\u00e9r\u00eat pour les espaces de d\u00e9ambulation, souvent \u00e9volutifs, dans lesquels le visiteur devient acteur, comme lors de l\u2019exposition Veilhan Versailles (2009), la s\u00e9rie Architectones (2012-2014) ou Studio Venezia (2017), sa proposition pour le Pavillon fran\u00e7ais de la Biennale de Venise. L\u2019\u0153uvre de Xavier Veilhan s\u2019invite souvent dans l\u2019espace public, avec des sculptures dans de nombreuses villes \u00e0 travers la France et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger : Paris, Stockholm, New York, Shanghai et S\u00e9oul, entre autres. Son travail a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 dans diverses institutions renomm\u00e9es \u00e0 travers le monde, comme le Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), le Mamco (Gen\u00e8ve), la Phillips Collection (Washington) et le Mori Art Museum (Tokyo)..<\/p>\n

L\u2019oiseau est un sujet r\u00e9current dans l\u2019\u0153uvre de Xavier Veilhan depuis ses premi\u00e8res expositions au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 90. L\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat pour les oiseaux vient de leur proximit\u00e9. Ce sont des animaux sauvages mais urbains principalement, qui cohabitent les villes avec nous.<\/p>\n

Les recherches sur la repr\u00e9sentation et l\u2019\u00e9chelle de formes souvent arch\u00e9typales sont illustr\u00e9es ici par une repr\u00e9sentation non symbolique et presque anodine de l\u2019animal.<\/p>\n

En combinant les formes multiples de passereaux appara\u00eet une forme g\u00e9n\u00e9rique de l\u2019oiseau. Elle t\u00e9moigne de la puissance de notre imaginaire collectif et de ses liens ind\u00e9niables avec le langage : le mot \u00ab\u2009oiseau\u2009\u00bb d\u00e9finit \u00e0 lui seul l\u2019image et limite l\u2019espace. L\u2019\u0153uvre comble l\u2019espace mental du mot \u00ab\u2009oiseau\u2009\u00bb pour celui qui l\u2019imagine.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u2009Les objets que je cr\u00e9e sont plus un dispositif visuel qu\u2019ils ne sont une fin en soi. C\u2019est la diff\u00e9rence entre regarder une paire de lunettes et regarder quelque chose \u00e0 travers une paire de lunettes.\u2009\u00bb<\/p>\n

Since the late 1980s, Xavier Veilhan has been developing a multi-faceted approach (sculpture, painting, environment, performance, video, photography) that blends formal classicism with high technology.<\/em><\/p>\n

His works question our perception and cultivate an interest in spaces for wandering, often evolving, in which the visitor becomes an actor, as in the Veilhan Versailles exhibition (2009), the Architectones series (2012-2014) or Studio Venezia (2017), his proposal for the French Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Xavier Veilhan’s work is often seen in public spaces, with sculptures in numerous cities across France and abroad: Paris, Stockholm, New York, Shanghai and Seoul, among others. His work has been shown in a number of renowned institutions around the world, including the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), the Mamco (Geneva), the Phillips Collection (Washington) and the Mori Art Museum (Tokyo).<\/em><\/p>\n

Birds have been a recurring theme in Xavier Veilhan’s work since his first exhibitions in the early 1990s. His interest in birds stems from their proximity. They are wild animals, but mainly urban animals that live in cities with us.<\/em><\/p>\n

His research into the representation and scale of often archetypal forms is illustrated here by a non-symbolic and almost innocuous representation of the animal.<\/em><\/p>\n

By combining the multiple shapes of passerines, a generic form of the bird emerges. It testifies to the power of our collective imagination and its undeniable links with language: the word ‘bird’ alone defines the image and limits the space. The work fills the mental space of the word ‘bird’ for those who imagine it.<\/em><\/p>\n

“The objects I create are more a visual device than an end in themselves. It’s the difference between looking at a pair of glasses and looking at something through a pair of glasses.”<\/em><\/p>\n
