L\u2019oeuvre de l\u2019artiste franco-tunisien Alex Ayed, intitul\u00e9e Untitled (Beit el hmam) <\/i>prend la forme d\u2019un pigeonnier fabriqu\u00e9 en bois d\u2019olivier, en argile, en paille et recouvert de chaux. Cette technique, caract\u00e9ristique de l\u2019architecture vernaculaire du nord de l\u2019Afrique, constitue encore de nos jours une alternative pr\u00e9existante aux constructions plus modernes trouv\u00e9es autour de la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Comme d\u2019autres oeuvres d\u2019Ayed, ce pigeonnier est le fruit de la convergence de diff\u00e9rentes narrations, tant issues de l\u2019histoire locale que de situations provoqu\u00e9es par l\u2019artiste.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

En 2019, Ayed avait construit une oeuvre similaire \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur du centre B7L9 \u00e0 Tunis, afin d\u2019y accueillir une soixantaine de pigeons recueillis aux alentours.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

La curatrice Myriam Ben Salah souligne que les oeuvres d\u2019Ayed sont des \u00ab incarnations physiques d\u2019une tradition orale \u00bb et t\u00e9moignent des migrations des objets et des individus \u00e0 travers l\u2019espace et le temps. Ainsi, la pratique itin\u00e9rante d\u2019Alex Ayed consiste \u00e0 s\u2019int\u00e9resser \u00e0 l\u2019histoire des lieux o\u00f9 il travaille et \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper les imaginaires qui y sont pr\u00e9sents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Il s\u00e9lectionne minutieusement des objets, les collectionne et les introduit dans l\u2019espace d\u2019exposition, non pas pour les f\u00e9tichiser, mais pour y puiser des histoires locales et universelles qu\u2019il assemble et recoupe dans des sculptures, installations ou oeuvres sonores.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The work of Franco-Tunisian artist Alex Ayed, entitled Untitled (Beit el hmam), takes the form of a dovecote made of olive wood, clay, straw and covered with lime. This technique, characteristic of the vernacular architecture of North Africa, still constitutes a pre-existing alternative to the more modern constructions found around the Mediterranean. Like other works by Ayed, this dovecote is the result of the convergence of different narratives, both from local history and from situations provoked by the artist.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

In 2019, Ayed had built a similar work inside the B7L9 center in Tunis, to accommodate about sixty pigeons collected from the surroundings.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Myriam Ben Salah, curator, emphasizes that Ayed\u2019s works are \u201cphysical embodiments of an oral tradition\u201d and bear witness to the migrations of objects and individuals through space and time. Thus, Alex Ayed\u2019s itinerant practice consists of taking an interest in the history of the places where he works and developing the imaginaries present there. He carefully selects objects, collects them, and introduces them into the exhibition space, not to fetishize them, but to draw from them local and universal histories that he assembles and cross-references in sculptures, installations or sound works.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
