La troisi\u00e8me Biennale Internationale de Saint-Paul-de-Vence a choisi
de s\u2019inspirer de l\u2019univers et de la symbolique des oiseaux. Choix fait par les deux commissaires<\/a> de cette exposition \u00e0 ciel ouvert : Ludovic Delalande et Claire Staebler<\/a>. Son titre n\u2019oublie pas que le po\u00e8te Jacques Pr\u00e9vert<\/a> fut un habitant et un passant \u00ab consid\u00e9rable \u00bb de ce village. Ce sont ses mots \u00ab Au hasard des oiseaux<\/a> \u00bb qui nous invitent \u00e0 la d\u00e9couverte, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9motion et \u00e0 la rencontre avec vingt \u0153uvres de douze artistes<\/a> qui sont autant de messagers nous rappelant qu\u2019il est profitable pour l\u2019homme de vivre avec la lumi\u00e8re et la beaut\u00e9 du vol des oiseaux.<\/p>\n

Con\u00e7u comme une opportunit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9changes et d\u2019\u00e9mulation artistique, le Parcours des Galeries de Saint-Paul-de-Vence \u00ab Une galerie \u2013 Un artiste \u00bb,<\/a> permet \u00e0 chaque galerie saint-gauloise participante de pr\u00e9senter, dans son espace, un artiste visuel de son choix qu\u2019elle met en lumi\u00e8re tout le temps de la Biennale.<\/p>\n

La m\u00e9diation<\/a> est au c\u0153ur du projet artistique et culturel de la Biennale, afin de permettre \u00e0 tous les publics d\u2019aborder simplement les \u0153uvres des artistes contemporains. En partenariat avec les associations du territoire, des actions \u00e9ducatives sp\u00e9cifiques de sensibilisation et d\u2019accompagnement ont \u00e9t\u00e9 organis\u00e9es pour les publics scolaires et relevant du champ social autour de visites guid\u00e9es, de temps d\u2019\u00e9changes et d\u2019ateliers de pratique artistique.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

“Perch\u00e9, en hauteur, dot\u00e9 d’une vue imprenable sur l’arri\u00e8re-pays ni\u00e7ois, Saint-Paul-de-Vence est connu pour son charme pittoresque et sa lumi\u00e8re. La 3e \u00e9dition de sa Biennale, qui propose un parcours d’installations contemporaines en plein air, invite \u00e0 appr\u00e9hender le village \u00e0 travers le le vivant, et plus sp\u00e9cifiquement \u00e0 travers les habitants de son ciel, les oiseaux. Quelle plus belle id\u00e9e que de nous convier \u00e0 tendre le nez en l’air, comme l’avait fait Jacques Pr\u00e9vert en son temps, promeneur amoureux de ces vieilles pierres mordor\u00e9es ? “Au hasard des oiseaux” disait-il. \u00c9maill\u00e9e de plusieurs oeuvrez d’artistes reconnus, contrairement \u00e0 l’\u00e9dition pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente qui avait mis\u00e9 sur l’\u00e9mergence, la d\u00e9ambulation invite \u00e0 d\u00e9couvrir une tapisserie de Giulia Andreani, des sculptures de Jean-Marie Appriou, Caroline Mesquita ou Xavier Veilhan, un nid de Tadashi Kawamata sur le clocher et dans les arbres ou encore une installation immersive de Diana Thater \u00e0 l’Espace Verdet. R\u00eaverie, \u00e9merveillement, biodiversit\u00e9 et souci des esp\u00e8ces prot\u00e9g\u00e9es se m\u00ealent tout l’\u00e9t\u00e9 au r\u00e9cit des artistes dont les oeuvres tendent \u00e0 se fondre de plus en plus dans les probl\u00e9matiques attach\u00e9es \u00e0 la pr\u00e9servation de la nature.

The third International Biennial of Saint-Paul-de-Vence has chosen<\/em>
to draw inspiration from the world and symbolism of birds. This choice was made by the two curators of this open-air exhibition: Ludovic Delalande and Claire Staebler. The title is a reminder that the poet Jacques Pr\u00e9vert was a resident of the village and a “considerable” passer-by. It is his words, “Au hasard des oiseaux”, that invite us to discover, to feel and to meet twenty works by twelve artists, all of whom are messengers reminding us that it is profitable for man to live with the light and beauty of the flight of birds.<\/em><\/p>\n

Conceived as an opportunity for artistic exchange and emulation, the Saint-Paul-de-Vence Gallery Trail “One Gallery – One Artist” enables each participating Saint-Paul-de-Vence gallery to present, in its own space, a visual artist of its choice, who will be highlighted throughout the Biennial.<\/em><\/p>\n

Mediation is at the heart of the Biennial’s artistic and cultural project, to enable all audiences to approach the works of contemporary artists in a straightforward manner. In partnership with local associations, specific educational initiatives to raise awareness and provide support have been organised for schools and social groups, with guided tours, discussion sessions and practical art workshops.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Perched high up, with a breathtaking view over the hinterland of Nice, Saint-Paul-de-Vence is known for its picturesque charm and its light. The 3rd edition of its Biennial, featuring a series of contemporary outdoor installations, invites us to explore the village through the eyes of the living, and more specifically through the inhabitants of its skies, the birds. What better idea than to invite us to turn our noses up into the air, as Jacques Pr\u00e9vert did in his day, a stroller in love with these old golden stones? “Au hasard des oiseaux”, as he put it. In contrast to last year’s event, which focused on emerging artists, the stroll will feature several works by established artists, including a tapestry by Giulia Andreani, sculptures by Jean-Marie Appriou, Caroline Mesquita and Xavier Veilhan, a nest by Tadashi Kawamata on the bell tower and in the trees, and an immersive installation by Diana Thater in the Espace Verdet. All summer long, reverie, wonder, biodiversity and concern for protected species mingle with the narratives of artists whose works are becoming increasingly involved in the issues surrounding nature conservation.<\/em><\/span>
