Créée en 1988 par Jean-Gabriel Mitterrand et installée dans un hôtel particulier du Marais, la Galerie Mitterrand offre depuis 30 ans une place prépondérante à la sculpture et à des artistes historiques ayant débuté leur activité à partir de 1960.  

En collaborant avec les artistes, leur succession ou en réunissant des ensembles d’œuvres rares provenant de collections particulières, l’objectif de la programmation est de remettre en lumière la singularité et la pertinence d’artistes ayant participé à l’histoire récente de la sculpture contemporaine. Depuis sa création, la Galerie Mitterrand a pu exposer et soutenir l’œuvre d’artistes incontournables tels que Niki de Saint Phalle, Allan McCollum, Keith Sonnier, Tony Oursler, Carlos Cruz-Diez …

Plus récemment, la Galerie Mitterrand a élargi son programme a des nouveaux artistes en s’affranchissant des limites d’âge, des origines et des supports. Ce décloisonnement nécessaire permet de refléter l’incroyable complexité et diversité de la création artistique au XXIème Siècle.

La Galerie Mitterrand n’a cessé de promouvoir des œuvres d’art essentielles à notre compréhension de l’histoire de l’art récente. Avec l’arrivée d’artistes tels que Mark di Suvero, Dennis Oppenheim ou encore Vaclav Pozarek, la Galerie Mitterrand ouvre un nouveau chapitre de sa programmation à une nouvelle génération d’artistes d’horizons différents qui explorent l’histoire des formes et des techniques à travers une analyse personnelle de nos sociétés contemporaines. Les artistes Marie Hazard, Kamrooz Aram, Wallen Mapondera et Pedro Reyes rejoignent ainsi le programme de la galerie en 2021 et 2022.

By collaborating with artists or their estates, the gallery aims to highlight the singularity and pertinence of artists who have contributed to the recent history of contemporary art. Since its creation, Galerie Mitterrand has been exhibiting and supporting the work of international artists such as Niki de Saint Phalle, Allan McCollum, Keith Sonnier, Tony Oursler, Carlos Cruz-Diez among others.

More recently, Galerie Mitterrand has expanded its artistic program to the world and to young artists by welcoming different new artistic mediums. This necessary opening up allowed us to reflect the incredible complexity and diversity of the 21st century artistic creation.
