Édition 2021 – Le commissariat artistique

Mon implication dans la Biennale de Saint-Paul de Vence ne doit rien au hasard. Née dans ce village, qui a connu tant de générations familiales avant moi, j’ai toujours été consciente et respectueuse de son exceptionnelle histoire artistique et culturelle.
Saint-Paul de Vence a été le lieu de villégiature privilégié des plus grands artistes, écrivains, cinéastes, poètes du vingtième siècle et la Côte d’Azur un terreau propice à la création.
Dès l’ouverture de ma galerie, j’ai souhaité élargir mon programme à la scène internationale en m’appuyant sur cette spécificité locale. Je suis convaincue que ma vocation consiste à découvrir de nouvelles expressions artistiques pour les proposer au regard et à l’intelligence du public, des collectionneurs et des institutions. Je reste à l’écoute de jeunes créateurs qui trouvent leur place aux cotés d’artistes majeurs.
De précieuses rencontres avec des historiens et des conservateurs m’ont amené à collaborer avec des lieux institutionnels comme le Musée Fernand Leger, le Musée Picasso, le M.A.M.A.C ou des lieux culturels comme l’Hôtel de Caumont et le Château Sainte Roseline permettant, via le commissariat d’expositions, de développer de nouvelles expériences de mises en valeur des œuvres.
Pour la Biennale 2021, nous avons souhaité porter notre regard sur la scène artistique émergente en réunissant des artistes de toutes nationalités. Ce choix, guidé par la conjoncture économique et la crise sanitaire, a rencontré le soutien et la complicité des acteurs du monde de l’art.
C’est avec un grand enthousiasme que nous proposons cet événement fédérateur, qualitatif et dynamique. Nous souhaitons avec la seconde édition de la Biennale de Saint-Paul de Vence poursuivre avec vous cette enrichissante aventure.

My involvement in the Biennial of Saint-Paul de Vence is no coincidence: I was born in this village, which has known so many family generations before me, and I have always been respectful and aware of its exceptional artistic and cultural history.
Saint-Paul de Vence has been the privileged setting of the greatest artists, writers, filmmakers, and poets of the twentieth century, and the Côte d’Azur a breeding ground for artistic creation.
As soon as I opened my gallery in 1975, I wanted to share my project to the international scene and presented the local specificity. In addition, I am convinced that the vocation of an art gallery is to discover new artistic expressions, and propose them to the public, collectors and institutions. I also remain attentive to young creators who find their place alongside major artists.
My precious encounters with historians and curators have enabled me to collaborate with institutions such as the Chagall Museum, the Fernand Léger Museum, the Picasso Museum, the M.A.M.A.C. or cultural venues such as the Hôtel de Caumont and the Château Sainte Roseline, allowing me to extend, through the curating of exhibitions, this opening to the world, that is so important to me.
Naturally, with the Town Hall of Saint-Paul de Vence, deeply involved in this long-term project from the outset, and the Association of the International Biennale of Saint-Paul de Vence, chaired by Olivier Kaeppelin, we wanted to create a program in which both established and emerging artists would interact together.
For the 2021 Biennial, we chose to focus on the emerging art scene as a place of creation, which echoes the greatest years of Saint-Paul de Vence, that welcomed so many creators and diverse practices.
In this Mediterranean region with such a singular topography and history, artworks question art and the present world in an attempt to find answers.
It is therefore with great enthusiasm that we propose this federative and dynamic event. With the second edition of the Biennial of Saint-Paul de Vence, we hope to continue this enriching adventure with you.
